The Daily Magic Update is a roundup of everything Magic you should know on August 29, 2017. Today's Update is brought to you by previews! Today we're getting a bunch of previews from around the world as geocaching starts hitting its stride.
So here's the deal with previews, because this season is weird, even by recent standards. Yesterday, obviously, we released a ton of cards from the leak, and people seemed to like seeing them all not in shaky, cell-phone-while-running-from-the-law quality. Over the next few days (depending on where in the world you are), you'll start to see a bunch of cards—mostly uncommons—coming out alongside the geocaching event. Then, watch for some more news on Friday on this very website, followed by PAX getting just a couple previews over the weekend. Then the party starts in earnest on Monday (Sept. 4), when you'll get previews every day from all around the web until the full set is revealed Sept. 15.

Deadeye Plunderers make their own Treasure and get bigger the more Treasure you have. There can't possibly be anything to do with that.

Deeproot Waters is a gorgeous way to make reams and reams of hexproof Merfolk. You can catch the translation here.
A Pirate's life for he!
I love that someone translated this as "Invite the Party." It does indeed create three 1/1 Vampire tokens with lifelink. And also, apparently, is a party.
Deathless Ancients. They don't die. Get it?
And for those of you who don't speak Italian, here's the full translation:

What to Watch Tonight
- Team Draft Super League | twitch.tv/magic | 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET/midnight UTC
It's Dem Boyz (Mike Sigrist, Alexander Hayne, and Steve Rubin) versus the Peach Garden Oath (William Jensen, Reid Duke, and Owen Turtenwald) in the finals of the Team Draft Super League. Both teams have put on a clinic this season, but only one trio can walk away as champions with reams and reams of bragging rights. Seriously, it could keep Owen in amusing, boastful tweets for days.

- Movers and Shakers
+8: William Jensen positively bounds up the standings after finishing 12-3 at Grand Prix Indianapolis.
+5: Brian Braun-Duin is still basking in the glow of his recent Grand Prix success, plus an 11-4 finish in Indy.
+2: Steven Rubin, Samuel Black, and Martin Jůza all got slight bumps from Grand Prix performances. Rubin and Jůza both finished in the Top 8 of Indy and Metz, respectively, and Black matched Braun-Duin's 11-4 in Indy.
-2, -1: Pretty much everyone else who dropped did so from others leapfrogging them rather than any particular poor performance. No one dropped out of the Top 25 this week, though Thiago Saporito and Christian Calcano are right on the floor.
|1||Paulo Vitor Damo Da Rosa||80.88||1|
|13||Lee Shi Tian||54.76||-1||12|
Dropped from rankings: None
What People Are Talking About
- A ton of full-art reveals!
With dozens of cards officially acknowledged yesterday, that meant artists who created the pieces for those cards were able to show off their work (or, in Mike Linnemann's case, fans could promote the art)! I tried to collect as many as I could in one place, though I'm sure I missed some. Enjoy what's here and watch for more art reveals as previews roll on.
Deck of the Day
- Modern Merfolk
Admittedly, I had to dig deep to find this deck, as Merfolk hasn't been particularly successful in Modern as of late. But could that change with Ixalan? We've already started to see Merfolk revealed with the set, and Kopala, Warden of Waves looks especially enticing.
Ostensibly a Kira, Great Glass-Spinner replacement with a more relevant creature type and a slightly less robust protection ability (it does let you target your own Merfolk, should it come to that), it may not be the savior Merfolk needs—but it's certainly one it'll take. As for whether there are more Merfolk coming that might shake things up? Well, you'll have to stay tuned.
