The Daily Magic Update is a roundup of everything Magic you should know on October 5, 2017. Today's Update is brought to you by Jace Is Ace. Thanks, Reddit!

Today's Must

  1. Ixalan Brew Blitz | | Chris Lansdell

Chris has whipped up some inventive new Standard lists revolving around cards from Ixalan, and they're all worth a look. Not only are they brand-new strategies with actual, viable paths to victory, they also have some truly excellent names, including "Vampire Horses Look in the Mirror," which sounds like a Gothic indie rock album title from the late '90s. Win-win.

After That, Read, Watch, or Listen to These

  1. New Ixalan Standard | Hareruya English | Petr Sochůrek

Petr looks at the earliest stages of Ixalan Standard, including a Dinosaurs list (woo! Team Dinosaur!) that recently went 5-0 in a competitive Magic Online League. Unsurprisingly, the field is still packed with familiar faces like Four-Color Energy, but who knows what crazy new brew will come out on top after the World Championship this weekend.

  1. Worlds 2017: Power Rankings and Predictions | Gathering Magic | Ben Friedman

With Worlds so close you can taste it (I'm getting hints of salted caramel?), Ben Friedman offers a comprehensive ranking of the players, with detailed breakdowns of his reasoning. Will Yuuya Watanabe steamroll his way to yet another victory? Will Martin Müller leapfrog over his higher-ranked competitors to steal the title? Nobody knows! That's what makes it exciting! Watch, or else I'll use even more exclamation points!

  1. One Goblin's Ballot | Hipsters of the Coast | Ryan Sainio

Apparently there's some serious political strife brewing in Goblin land. On behalf of Ib Halfheart, Goblin Tactician (slogan: "Notorious. Cowardly. Tactical."), Ryan makes an impassioned plea for Goblin loyalists to turn away from Krenko, Mob Boss, whom he paints as a deceptive usurper, and rejoin the Ib Nation. I think we can all agree this is a very important issue.

  1. 5 Reasons I'm Excited for Worlds | ChannelFireball | Mike Sigrist

There are lots of reasons to be excited about the World Championship, but in case you needed a few more, Mike Sigrist has you covered. In particular, there are some truly outstanding teams to keep an eye on, and with the format so fresh, pretty much anything could happen!

What People Are Talking About

Next Wednesday, LoadingReadyRun will stream their "Standard Scuffle" on, pitting the four main tribes of Ixalan against each other to see which one comes out on top. As they say, "Be there, or be dino food."

Deck of the Day

  1. _Phoenix_'s Abzan Tokens

Magic Online user _Phoenix_ recently took this list 5-0 in a Competitive Standard Constructed League. The deck looks to go as wide as possible, then eat the board with Fumigate to gain life off all the tokens, then go wide again before the opponent can rebuild. This strategy wouldn't likely be possible without Anointed Procession doubling the efficiency of all your token makers, Legion's Landing transforming into almost Kjeldoran Outpost, and Hidden Stockpile filtering your draws while helping build out the board.

Green is barely a splash in this deck, but Vraska, Relic Seeker is a welcome inclusion as yet another token maker and all-around value machine. She can also act as removal for problematic permanents of most kinds, while rewarding you with more Treasure—and she can even put your opponent straight to 1 life if she goes unchecked!
