Blake is the content manager for, making him the one you should email if you have thoughts on the website, good or less good (or not good). He's a longtime coverage reporter and hasn't turned down a game of Magic in any format ever.

The Daily Magic Update is a roundup of everything Magic you should know on November 3, 2017. Today's Update is brought to you by Pro Tour Ixalan. Obviously.

What to Watch Today

  1. Pro Tour Ixalan | | 8 a.m. PT/11 a.m. ET/3 p.m. UTC

It's here! Like, right now here. Tune in to discreetly during work to see the best in the world try to crack Standard right in half. Or they’re just playing Ramunap Red or Temur Energy. One of the two.

What People Are Talking About

Congratulations to Josh Utter-Leyton and Martin Jůza on their induction into the Hall of Fame. It’s well-deserved.

It’s for the best of reasons (he had a kid), but this streak coming to an end is a bit like when Cal Ripken finally sat. Or like when Cats finally closed on Broadway. Or when Ryan stopped punching people on The O.C.

Yes, that was an O.C. reference. Happy weekend!

Also, Read, Watch, or Listen to These

  1. Scrub Club - Episode 2: The Testing | ChannelFireball | Denis Stranjak, Alex Ball, Oisin Lyons

Jon Finkel. The answer you’re looking for is Jon Finkel. Now you don’t have to look it up!

Oh, also, this is a new series from the crew formerly known as Windmill Slam, now creating content for ChannelFireball. It’s about a group of players testing for the Pro Tour, and I definitely laughed out loud several times, so it’s certainly worth checking out.

  1. Dimir Gift Is Broken | Gathering Magic | Ben Friedman

Oh, is that so? Guess we’ll find out in a few short hours when Standard begins.

  1. My Two Control Decks For Pro Tour Ixalan | StarCityGames | Shaheen Soorani

All week I’ve been struggling to put together a deck for FNM this week. I’ve gone through about five different decks (all Search for Azcanta decks, of course) and keep coming back to two decks—Grixis and Approach of the Second Sun. All I’m trying to say is that Shaheen Soorani is my Patronus and I wish him all the luck with either deck at the Pro Tour.

  1. Before The Night Is Through | Magic with Zuby | Matthew Zubritsky

No content creator is more passionate about small Magic content creators than Zuby. If you haven’t listened to his podcast, this isn’t a bad one to start with, as Zuby talks Commander and brings on a special guest star (hint: it’s his wife) to talk about women in Magic.

  1. This Week in Legacy: SCG Open Washington DC | MTGGoldfish | Sean Brown

If you’re a Legacy fan, this is a must-read, super-informative look at interesting decks coming out of the latest SCG Open.

Deck of the Day

  1. Standard Ramunap Red

Despite being a known entity basically forever, Ramunap Red keeps churning out victories. This particular decklist comes from SandyDogMTG (you might know him as Brandon Burton, MTGO ringer), and it won him a Magic Online Pro Tour Qualifier. This deck will definitely be a player this weekend at Pro Tour Ixalan—the question is just how much of a player it will turn out to be.
