Blake is the content manager for DailyMTG.com, making him the one you should email if you have thoughts on the website, good or less good (or not good). He's a longtime coverage reporter and hasn't turned down a game of Magic in any format ever.

The Daily Magic Update is a roundup of everything Magic you should know on November 6, 2017. Today's Update is brought to you by Seth Manfield—father, former World Champion, all-around nice guy, and, oh yeah, Pro Tour Champion.

What You Might Have Missed This Weekend

  1. Pro Tour Ixalan

Oh, did you know a Pro Tour happened this weekend? They broadcast it and everything. Hundreds of players came, we gave away money, it was a whole thing. If by chance you missed it, then you have a ton of catching up to do. Let me help.

Those are the big things, but of course, there's plenty more if you want to go deep on Pro Tour Ixalan on the full coverage page.

  1. In Response: Homogeneous MTG art and the role of the Planeswalker - A Magic: The Gathering Debate | Tolarian Community College | The Professor and The Magic Man Sam

It’s been a while, In Response. Welcome back.

  1. Pro Tour Ixalan Testing Insider | Limited Resources | Marshall Sutcliffe and Luis Scott-Vargas

Team ChannelFireball absolutely killed it at the Pro Tour, coming in second only due to Seth Manfield pulling his team across the finish line with a tournament win. This podcast gives you an inside look at how ChannelFireball approached testing for this tournament, what they learned, and how they do that thing they do.

  1. The Blue Wizard! | Magic: Shandalar #35 │ ProJared Plays! | Pro Jared

ProJared continues his march through the world of Shandalar. The video is worth the price of admission at the first encounter. I won’t spoil it, but I will say it involves two Black Lotuses and a Craw Wurm.

  1. Pro Tour Ixalan: By the Numbers | MTGGoldfish | SaffronOlive

As far as summaries of the Pro Tour metagame go, this one is pretty thorough. Would you expect any less from Mr. Olive?

He does raise questions about the number of Temur/Four-Color Energy decks played at the Pro Tour and whether the representative numbers are too high for a healthy format. One thing Saffron doesn’t point out is how this Pro Tour is different from comparable Pro Tours where Collected Company and Aetherworks Marvel were slightly less played as a part of the whole: this Pro Tour happened much later in the season. The best versions of these decks don’t really coalesce until later in the season, when they start making up larger portions of the metagame. Adam Prosak talked a bit about this the other week, and it makes a late-season Pro Tour a different breed.

  1. The Intriguing Possibilities Of Planeswalker Angrath | StarCityGames | John Dale Beety

Ever since we published the fact that Angrath was just a dad angry he couldn’t get home to his two daughters, the internet has adopted him as their new favorite red-black character. But where can that story go? JDB looks into it.

What People Are Talking About

The post–PT victory celebration has become a bit of a tradition. The champion tweeting he would buy drinks for anyone and everyone? Less traditional, but still effective.

Yeah, the new art in From the Vault: Transform is kind of great. Despite the small leak last week, people seem to be excited about what we revealed today. So, yay.

Bruce Richard, who loves and celebrates our more casual supplementary sets with a fervor unlike any other, is at it again. For our second Conspiracy set, Richard would regularly publish The Paliano Post, a fake newspaper set in the world of Conspiracy. I’ll let him describe what’s happening this time around:

“I have four other 'reporters' who will each be reporting on a separate faction each day, M–F. We plan to consistently add #MTGUn3 and #Unquirer so if someone isn't following one of the writers, they can still find that day's article. It promises to be a bit of fun each day!"

Deck of the Day

  1. Standard Sultai Energy

Congratulations to Seth Manfield, who, you might have heard, won Pro Tour Ixalan with Sultai Energy.
