Burn at the Pro Tour

Matt Sperling has played on the Pro Tour for many years, but playing under the lights on Sunday has always eluded him. At Pro Tour Magic 2015, Matt was finally able to break through and make the Top 8. Matt's deck of choice for the Standard rounds was a potent Boros Burn deck he piloted to an 8–1–1 record.

Watching Matt's games on camera, it was clear that this deck was very difficult to play optimally. Matt carefully maximized the effectiveness of his cards in order to make his burn spells effective. The creatures in this deck are incredibly powerful, but can be tricky to maximize. Young Pyromancer will almost always draw opposing removal, but it can accumulate tokens at a rapid rate if left unchecked. Balancing the desire to make tokens quickly and avoid removal at the same time is often tricky. Saving enough burn spells to return your Chandra's Phoenix multiple times can also be difficult, especially as you need to deal with opposing threats.
