Typically, when you see a Scapeshift/Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle combo deck, you are looking at a blue-red-green deck. Adding blue to the red-green combo provides both card selection and ways to draw the game longer. Getting to seven lands isn't the easiest thing to do in Modern, even with the ramp that green provides. However, Magic Online user foozea believes that black provides a potent option, using discard effects to prolong the game to the point where seven lands is a real possibility.

Why seven lands? When you cast Scapeshift, you need to sacrifice seven lands so you can get six Mountains and a Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle, which will trigger six times to deal 18 damage. Cards such as Search for Tomorrow, Sakura-Tribe Elder, and Courser of Kruphix are essential to helping to generate the extra mana. However, there are other Valakut-based combos with this deck.

Prismatic Omen turns all of your lands, including Valakut itself, into Mountains. Your Verdant Catacombs can now deal 6 damage for each Valakut once you reach six lands! Speaking of reaching six lands, Primeval Titan is a huge endgame threat that can provide many lands and Valakut triggers.
