The Gifts of Urza

The Urza's lands—Mine, Tower, and Power Plant—are explosive mana-producing lands that are often referred to as the UrzaTron. Typically, these are seen in red-green decks that are focused on assembling the three lands as quickly as possible. Today's deck is a little different, although this deck still makes great use of the Urza's lands.

This deck wants to prolong the game, allowing the deck to gradually build toward assembling the three Urza's lands. While Expedition Map is still present to help search up the correct land, this deck is lacking the explosiveness of its red-green cousin. In exchange, this deck gets some resiliency and is not as reliant on assembling the UrzaTron. This deck is perfectly capable of functioning as a normal control deck.

The other major reason to play white-blue is the Gifts Ungiven package that is capable of producing a powerful threat quickly. One common play with this deck is to cast Gifts Ungiven and only get two cards—Unburial Rites and a large creature, such as Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite. Because you only found two cards, they will both go to your graveyard, which conveniently lets you reanimate that creature on your next turn. Gifts Ungiven has many possibilities in this deck, but using Unburial Rites is one of the most straightforward and effective.
