Ever wondered who Mons is from Mons Goblin Raider? Well, it's Mons Johnson and he's playing in Grand Prix Las Vegas. Mons went to high school with Richard Garfield and when Garfield came up with the Magic, his high school buddy Mons was right there helping him test the cards that went into Alpha.

Mons has been playing goblins ever since.

Like many of Garfield's friends who helped him playtest Alpha, Johnson eventually took a job at Wizards of the Coast. However, about a year ago Mons decided he wanted to do something different with his life so he left Wizards to pursue other opportunities. The extra bonus of his move? Now he was eligible to play Magic tournaments! Johnson made his debut at NW Regionals this spring and lost the use of his Sideboard to a decklist registration mistake. "I'd never filled out a decklist before!" Despite that, he still made a nice run and finished in the Top 16.

For Grand Prix Las Vegas there was never any doubt about what he'd be running ... His special goblin technology includes Goblin Ringleader - the Apocalypse "envoy" who puts any goblins from the top four cards into his hand. The Ringleader is expensive, but that's where Goblin Lackey comes into play. As if that combo wasn't cool enough, Mons is also running Goblin Recruiters to both get the Ringleader (if necessary) and set up the top of his library so the Ringleader doesn't miss!
