For many years, Japan struggled to be taken seriously as a Pro Tour power nation. All that changed at Pro Tour–Kobe in 2004. Masashiro Kuroda powered through the event with his Big Red deck, leaving many an Affinity player in his dust. By the time action on Sunday cleared, he was the victor making him the very first Japanese player to win a Pro Tour title.
