Do You Believe In...?

All week here at DailyMTG.com, we have been paying homage to the white-blue guild formerly (and presently) known as Azorius. So far, Daily Decks has taken a look at white-blue in Standard as well as Modern, but that isn't the only place where white-blue is viable. Legacy has seen its fair share of white-blue decks including anything from Stoneforge Mystic brews to more controlling Standstill lists with only a handful of win conditions. Avacyn Restored introduced a pretty nifty keyword for older formats, though, and miracles is most certainly a solid white-blue option, as Justin Adams can attest to.

Sensei's Divining Top

Miracles is basically an extension of more traditional Counter-Top strategies. The idea behind Counter-Top is simply to establish the combo of Counterbalance and Sensei's Divining Top. At this point, you get to counter most things that cost four or less for the simple tapping of a mana. But with Top comes library manipulation—something Legacy already knows a thing or two about. Brainstorm; Jace, the Mind Sculptor; and fetchlands already allow for a very solid manipulation of your library, which just plays into miracles even more. Once you have ways of ensuring those six- and seven-mana spells don't clog up your hand, they are pretty powerful!

Most of the other technology in WU Miracles is just traditional adaptations from white-blue control over the past two decades. In fact, the spells in the deck are almost a who's who of control cards. Swords to Plowshares is the best removal spell ever printed. Force of Will and Counterspell are both powerful counterspells to help balance out your game against combo. Jace, the Mind Sculptor is on the short list for most powerful cards ever printed. And Return to Ravnica even makes an appearance with both Supreme Verdict and Detention Sphere serving key roles!
