From Friday Night Magic to the Pro Tour, Adam Prosak loves all types of tournament Magic. Currently, Adam is working in R&D as a developer.

You sit down to play at a Grand Prix Minneapolis, and your opponent is none other than then-reigning Pro Tour Champion Shaun McLaren. You have him pegged as playing the same deck he won the Pro Tour with, a Red-White-Blue Control deck featuring lots of removal and card drawing. An Electrolyze here, a Lightning Bolt there, a Snapcaster Mage everywhere, and you've got Shaun figured out. You've tested this matchup, and you know how you're going to defeat a Pro Tour Champion.

Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker

"At the end of your turn, Restoration Angel."

Interesting. Shaun didn't play Restoration Angel at Pro Tour Born of the Gods! This is a pretty reasonable card to play, and you'll have to be on your toes for the rest of the match.

"Untap, draw, play Kiki-Jiki, copy Restoration Angel, blink Kiki-Jiki."

Oh no, you've been had.

Don't worry, you're not alone. Shaun defeated many players in this way on his way to a semifinals appearance at Grand Prix Minneapolis. Adding a combo element into his control deck gave his potent Pro Tour–winning deck a new dimension and kept his opponents on their toes all tournament long.
