It's Boros Week, and the Boros Legion wants you!... to play it in Modern. While traditionally a deck that has existed just on the fringes of competitiveness in the format, the recent updates to the banned and restricted list for Modern of Bloodbraid Elf and Seething Song, combined with the added goodies in Gatecrash, may just give the deck the extra oomph needed to start seeing the top tables.

Boros Charm

This particular deck comes from a Magic Online Daily, where it 4–0ed right around Pro Tour Return to Ravnica. The deck features some of the hardest-hitting one-drops in the format, Steppe Lynx and Figure of Destiny, as well as two of the most versatile removal spells in Lightning Helix and Lightning Bolt. If games do go long (if you consider the fourth turn long), a cracked fetchland and an Elspeth pumping either a Steppe Lynx or a Plated Geopede should be enough to take out most opponents.

What will this deck get from Gatecrash? It's hard to say for sure, but there are plenty of options. Certainly, Boros Charm is an early candidate, providing some protection against removal as well as another way to close the gap between your opponent's life total and 0. Legion Loyalist and Boros Elite (combined with adding Goblin Guide to the deck) are options for pushing down the deck's converted mana cost and speeding up the clock even more, and Skullcrack is a perfect sideboard card for decks that attempt to resort to lifegain to escape the justice of the Legion.
