Modern, the Enchanted

Even though it's only ever been a fringe card, Zur the Enchanter has always been on my radar. After all, being able to both search your deck for a specific card and put it into play for free has historically been one of the best things you can be doing in Magic.

Zur the Enchanter

The common options to Zur for include Steel of the Godhead to gain some life, Detention Sphere to remove a problematic permanent, Spreading Seas to disrupt your opponent, and Threads of Disloyalty to take a Tarmogoyf or Dark Confidant. With the release of Theros, we now have Thassa, God of the Sea! Additionally, Bitterblossom was recently unbanned, so Zur can add that to his arsenal.

Meddling Mage and Geist of Saint Traft provide a reasonable aggro-control shell and additional Steel of the Godhead targets. The rest of the deck is filled with removal and disruption to ensure Zur's survival. If you get to untap with Zur, you should like your spot!
