Ladies and Gentlemen, you have a new deck to beat. Black Devotion decks have been at the top of the Standard pecking order for quite some time. Due to the power of Temples, both white and red have seen success as splashes in Black Devotion. With Journey into Nyx, Temple of Malady opens up the option of splashing green. Andrew Tenjum recently won the StarCityGames Open in Cincinnati with a Black Devotion deck with a light splash of green.

The appeal of a green splash becomes apparent when you look at other new options with Journey into Nyx. Banishing Light has made its way into all sorts of white decks, and combined with Detention Sphere as an additional target, Abrupt Decay looks very appealing as a removal spell that will rarely lack a target. Vraska the Unseen and Golgari Charm ramp up the enchantment removal, which is important, given the amount of enchantments in Standard now with the introduction of Journey into Nyx.
