Ogre Battledriver

Ogre Battledriver is an extreme powerful creature to untap with. If you have it in play, and cast and flashback Lingering Souls, those tokens alone can attack for 12 that turn.

The problem is, if you build your deck to untap with a four-mana 3/3, your opponent is unlikely to let you do that. Fortunately, I think we can do better.

Instead of trying to untap with Ogre Battledriver, I'd like to make creatures the turn it comes into play. For this to be any good, I need to do it without spending mana.

Naturally, the way that I want to do this is by sacrificing creatures that put a new creature into play when they die so that I can use Ogre Battledriver as something of an Overrun that stays in play.

Unfortunately, doing this in Standard would require cards from more different colors than the mana would support, so I have to turn to Modern.

I know that I'm heavily red, because Ogre Battledriver costs . The best red card to let me sacrifice creatures is Greater Gargadon, so I want to start with that. Mogg War Marshal makes a creature when it dies—even if it doesn't do so at a great rate—but it's always been best friends with Greater Gargadon, and it's a great play if you do happen to untap with the Battledriver.

Red isn't going to have enough support by itself. Green and white have the best creatures that make new creatures when they die, and black has the best ways to sacrifice them. It's possible to build a three-color version of the deck, but I want to play all the cards that work best, so I'm building WBRG.

The best way to make a lot of tokens the turn after spending mana is Promise of Bunrei, which can offer a huge number of tokens at a reasonable price the turn Ogre Battlemaster comes into play.

In order to make the mana work, I want to use Ancient Ziggurat, which isn't great with Promise of Bunrei, but I think each is important enough to justify using them both in the same deck.
