Finding Your Way In Standard

It's been a while since we've seen a brand-new archetype in Standard, but Ari Lax recently piloted this version of BG "Dredge" to a Top 16 finish at Grand Prix Cincinnati. Similar decks had been doing well on Magic Online and Ari decided to show the world that it was the real deal.

The deck runs a lot of mana creatures and a low land count in order to mill as many creatures as possible with cards like Satyr Wayfinder, Commune with the Gods, and Grisly Salvage. As it turns out, Limited all-stars, such as Nighthowler and Nemesis of Mortals, are pretty good in Standard once you have a full graveyard.

Whip of Erebos might seem like a notable exclusion, but that's just how dedicated Ari was to filling his graveyard. In fact, including clunky cards like Whip (and Rescue from the Underworld) may have been the downfall of earlier versions of the deck. This version is streamlined and does what it's supposed to incredibly well.

If you're looking for something new to play in Standard that is still competitive, I'd recommend Naya Hexproof! However, if that's not your thing, give Ari's list a shot.
