Welcome back to Pack 1, Pick 1: Throne of Eldraine edition! Today, we are going to look at the cards you want to see staring back at you when you crack your first pack. As with any pick-order list, after the first couple picks, the cards you're looking for change, so this will be most useful as a guide to kick you off. Let's get to it!

The Best of the Best

These are the headliners of the set. If you open one of these cards, you're in great shape, and all of them are worth trying to draft toward. These cards win you the game by themselves and often will get you back into a game you were previously losing.

The Best of the Rest

This section covers high-impact cards that you'll be happy first-picking. These are still bombs, and among the top cards in the set, so you'll have no complaints if you have to start with one of them.

A Great Start

As the name implies, you'll still be quite happy with a card from this column. The best removal spells end up here, as do many of the higher-tier uncommons. This is the last column where I get really excited to first-pick a card, as the quality drops off from here.

A Good Start

Here is where you're satisfied to take one of these cards, but not overjoyed. These cards are all good first picks, and will be among the better cards in your deck, but none are bombs or really high-impact build-arounds.

A Solid Start

At this point I'm grumbling to myself a little, but I'll still take one of these cards and likely add it to my deck. These are among the better commons, but not quite the best, and are below-average first picks. Still, you'll have to take cards from this list plenty of times, so don't be too bummed out when it happens.

This format is awesome, and I've been having a blast so far. There is a lot of cool stuff going on, and underneath all of it is some incredible flavor. I'm actually a big flavor fan, both in my food and my cards, so it's really neat to see a set tying both of those together. Enjoy Throne of Eldraine, and I hope you open cards from the top of the article rather than the bottom!
