Banned & Restricted List Update Window

On Monday, September 28, R&D will make an announcement regarding the banned and restricted list. Magic Online will implement the change on the same day at noon, September 28, at 12 p.m. PT.

When a card is banned or restricted, players using newly banned cards in leagues have until the Magic Online effective time to finish those league courses. At that time, any remaining players with newly illegal decks will be removed from the league with their entry option returned to their collection. If a card is unbanned or unrestricted, players can join existing leagues with decks containing those cards after the update.


Zendikar Rising: Magic Online Edition

Modern Cube

Modern Cube has returned! Updated with cards from our most recent releases, this cube features the most powerful cards you can play in Modern wrapped up in that awesome Cube wrapper. The Draft league and single-elimination Draft queue will be available until October 7, and you can read more about this latest Modern Cube update right here and view the full card list here.


Limited Super Qualifier Saturday

On Saturday, September 26, there will be a Zendikar Rising Sealed Super Qualifier at 7 a.m. PT! The entry fee is 40 MOCS Qualifier Points, 40 Event Tickets, or 400 Play Points. The top two players qualify for the Zendikar Rising Split Championship on MTG Arena.

Standard Split Championship Qualifier Sunday

On Sunday, September 27, there will be a Standard Split Championship Qualifier at 7 a.m. PT! The entry fee is 40 MOCS Qualifier Points. The winner qualifies for the Zendikar Rising Split Championship on MTG Arena.

Magic Online Format Challenges Every Weekend

Format Challenges are the first step toward qualifying for Premier Play through your favorite Magic formats. To learn more about Premier Play qualification, click here.

Magic Online's Format Challenges now run once on Saturdays and once on Sundays for each Constructed format! On weekends featuring Showcase Challenge events, the Format Challenge that starts at either 6 a.m., 8 a.m., or 10 a.m. Pacific time is pre-empted by the Showcase Challenge—Format Challenges scheduled at other times remain in place. NOTE: The Pauper Challenge is never pre-empted.

Next Downtime October 28

The next downtime will be October 28, beginning at 9 a.m. and continuing until noon. This is for the release of Commander Legends. All times listed are Pacific time (UTC-7).


Build Notes

  • Relic Amulet's activated ability will now display the number of counters removed during activation. This will be, in most cases, the amount of damage dealt on resolution.
  • The party tracker will now properly ignore creatures phased out or exiled by other permanents.
  • Copies of permanent spells will now properly trigger "when this becomes the target of a spell" abilities.
  • Blue text has been added to Kabira Takedown to indicate the number of creatures controlled by the spell's controller. This will be, in most cases, the amount of damage dealt on resolution.
  • Inscription of Abundance has been given targeting comments to disambiguate its first and third modes.
