ARTIST INFORMATION
JOHN AVON
A master of contemporary illustration, British artist John Avon began his work for Magic with a notable series of Mountains for the Mirage expansion. Hundreds of cards later, he has become one of the most beloved figures in the game for his atmospheric landscapes and striking scenes. His Unhinged basic lands, particularly the Island, are popular with Legacy enthusiasts. Non-basic highlights include artifact land Seat of the Synod, combo piece Thespian's Stage, and the Grand Prix foil / Modern Masters version of Maelstrom Pulse.
ANNOUNCEMENT
Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, Zoltan Boros will not be attending Grand Prix New Jersey.
JEFF A. MENGES
One of the original 25 illustrators for the first Magic set, Jeff A. Menges helped define the early look of the game with Alpha cards such as Bog Wraith and current Legacy favorite Swords to Plowshares.
RK POST
rk post is a master of the marvelously macabre. Noted Legacy discard spell Unmask features one of his famous Gothic female illustrations, Dredge staple Ichorid is among the most unsettling of his monsters, and Morphling’s long stretch of competitive-play dominance makes it one of Magic’s iconic creatures.
CHRISTOPHER RUSH
One of the original 25 illustrators for the first Magic set, Christopher Rush created Black Lotus, the most powerful card in the game’s history, and Lightning Bolt. Other famous cards first printed with Christopher Rush illustrations include Brainstorm (Ice Age) and Wellwisher.
ZACK STELLA
A newer illustrator to Magic, Zack Stella already has multiple high-profile Legacy cards to his credit in just a few years. His first revealed work for Magic was the Judge promo version of Show and Tell, while Commander 2013’s True-Name Nemesis has emerged as a staple threat for blue decks.
MATT STEWART
Matt Stewart’s Magic debut was Future Sight, and one of his first assignments, Narcomoeba, transformed what was possible in Magic. In addition to his regular presence in Magic sets, he has illustrated several notable promo cards, including the Judge foil Mana Crypt and Force of Will.
