In Round 9 of the 2017 World Magic Cup—the second round of Stage 1 for Day Two’s pool play—Goran Begovic of the Serbian team was disqualified. During his match, he called a judge over to clear up what he said was an unclear game state. During the investigation, Begovic changed his story. After further discussion with the players involved, judges ruled that Begovic had lied to a judge during the course of the investigation, resulting in his disqualification from the tournament. As his teammates were 1-1 at the time, this resulted in Serbia losing their match and being eliminated from the tournament.
