Yuki Matsumoto has upgraded on his past performance earlier in 2015. Having earned his first Grand Prix Top 8 in Shizuoka, January 2015, Matsumoto went beyond that performance with his win at the historic Grand Prix Chiba.

Fittingly, the format for Grand Prix Chiba, Modern Masters 2015 Edition Limited, covers a span of time that ends with Scars of Mirrodin, the set in which Matsumoto first began playing the game. And it was that set that truly powered him through this Top 8. His White-Blue artifact deck contained some powerful synergies as well as brute-force power such as Mirran Crusader, a card that let him turn the corner in his finals match against 2011 World Champion Junya Iyanaga.

As a player who first started in the modern era of Magic, it is too fitting that at the end of the event, it's Yuki Matsumoto who has been crowned Chiba's modern master.
