Name: Matt Costa

Age: 22

Hometown: Eastham, MA

Previous Magic accomplishments: Top 8 Pro Tour Dark Ascension; winner of Grand Prix Baltimore.

What colors were your first Sealed deck? What was your record and best card? I went 7-2 with red-green. Leaf Gilder was my best card.

What about your second? 5-0 with black-red, Molten Vortex was my best card.

What was a card you wanted for a deck, that your teammate needed to play?Lightning Javelin.

What was the most helpful thing your teammates did for you in the tournament? They mulliganned bad hands.

Previous Magic accomplishments: Team wins at a Pro Tour and Grand Prix; winner at Grand Prix Pittsburgh.

What colors were your first Sealed deck? What was your record and best card? Blue-black, I went 7-2 and my best card was Hangy b. (Hangarback Walker).

What about your second? Green-blue, going 5-0. Willbreaker was my best card.

What was a card you wanted for a deck, that your teammate needed to play? Evolving Wilds.

What was the most helpful thing your teammates did for you in the tournament? Won their matches.

Previous Magic accomplishments: Two-time (defending) World Champion; three Grand Prix titles; lost to Matt Nass, Jesse Hampton and Jacob Wilson in the finals of Team Limited at Grand Prix Nashville last year.

What colors were your first Sealed deck? What was your record and best card? I went 7-2 with red-white, and Molten Vortex was the best card.

What about your second? I was mono-white, and Celestial Flare was the best card.

What was a card you wanted for a deck, that your teammate needed to play? Chandra's Fury.

What was the most helpful thing your teammates did for you in the tournament? Brock never watched my matches!

What colors were your first Sealed deck? What was your record and best card? I went 9-0 with green-blue. Whirler Rogue was my best card.

What about your second? I went 3-2 with mono-red. Goblin Glory Chaser was my best card.

What was a card you wanted for a deck, that your teammate needed to play? The team builds three decks with the best overall power and expected win percentage.

What was the most helpful thing your teammates did for you in the tournament? Win a lot.

What colors were your first Sealed deck? What was your record and best card? I went 9-0 with black-red, and Nantuko Husk was my best card.

What about your second? Black-green. I went 3-2 and Dwynen, Gilt-Leaf Daen was my best card.

What was a card you wanted for a deck, that your teammate needed to play? Macabre Waltz.

What was the most helpful thing your teammates did for you in the tournament? They gave me the best decks!

What colors were your first Sealed deck? What was your record and best card? I went 9-0 with mono-white. Kytheon’s Irregulars was my best card.

What about your second? I went 3-2 with white-black, and Topan “Black Lotus” Freeblade was the best card.

What was a card you wanted for a deck, that your teammate needed to play? Foundry of the Consuls.

What was the most helpful thing your teammates did for you in the tournament? Win.

Name: Ben Stark

Hometown: Cord Springs, FL

Previous Magic accomplishments: Member of the Magic Pro Tour Hall of Fame; Pro Tour Paris and Grand prix Indianapolis champion; four Pro Tour Top 8s; 16 Grand Prix Top 8s.

What colors were your first Sealed deck? What was your record and best card? I went 8-0 in matches finished with white-black, and Priest of the Blood Rite was my best card.

What about your second? I was 3-0 with black-red, and Ravaging Blaze was my best card.

What was a card you wanted for a deck, that your teammate needed to play? Cruel Revival.

What was the most helpful thing your teammates did for you in the tournament? They added me to the squad.


Name: Luis Scott-Vargas

Age: 32

Hometown: Oakland, CA

Previous Magic accomplishments: Member of the Hall of Fame; winner at team Grand Prix San Jose; fourth at team Grand Prix Portland; Top 8s of team Grand Prix Nashville and Providence.

What colors were your first Sealed deck? What was your record and best card? I went 7-2 with green-blue. Jhessian Thief was my best card.

What about your second? I was white-blue and went 3-1-1. Two Sentinel of the Eternal Watch was my best card.

What was a card you wanted for a deck, that your teammate needed to play? We don’t really look at the cards that way. Also, I just played all the blue cards.

What was the most helpful thing your teammates did for you in the tournament? They kept picking up my deck after I left it somewhere. This happened many times.

Previous Magic accomplishments: Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2015; four Pro Tour Top 8s; some decent amount of Grand Prix Top 8s, and soon I’ll be ranked No. 1 over Siggy (Mike Sigrist).

What colors were your first Sealed deck? What was your record and best card? I went 6-2 with the black-red sacrifice deck. Hangarback Walker was my best card.

What about your second? I played black-green, and went 1-3.

What was a card you wanted for a deck, that your teammate needed to play? All the good card, that were taken by LSV.

What was the most helpful thing your teammates did for you in the tournament? Win every single round.
