TOP 8 COVERAGE
The dust has settled in Indianapolis, and Brent Clawson and his Abzan deck have emerged victorious! Beating former Rookie of the Year Ray Perez, Jr.'s Esper Tokens deck in two short games, the Michigan native has qualified himself for his first-ever Pro Tour.
This weekend showcased a variety of decks doing well, and the Top 8 illuminated that variety. Red-Green Landfall, Esper Control, Bant Megamorph, Blue Abzan, Esper Tokens, and even a Hardened Scales deck all fought valiantly in the elimination rounds. Dark Jeskai, Atarka Red, and Red-Green Eldrazi were all over Day 2, but failed to convert anyone to the final rounds.
Battle for Zendikar Standard may look like it's in the "tuning" phase, but with more and more decks putting up more and more results, there's surely more and more to come.
From Indianapolis, goodnight everybody!
DAY 2 COVERAGE
We're ready. We've set our clocks back; we've gotten a good night's rest; we've looked over the match-ups again. It's time for the second day of Battle for Zendikar Standard action here in Indianapolis!
The Day 1 masters were Pro Tour Hall of Fame member Luis Scott-Vargas, David Phelps, and Andrew Eales at 9-0; while Doug Bauer, Stephen Berrios, and Hall of Famer Patrick Chapin each ending without a loss, but accepting a draw or two. They've got targets on their backs today.
Will Dark Jeskai, Atarka Red, Abzan, or Red-Green Eldrazi end up on top? Or will some of the young upstarts in the format make names for themselves? There's tons of new tech floating around, and today will tell us whether they are actually the "new hotness."
We're streaming right now at twitch.tv/magic2! Come join the action.
DAY 1 COVERAGE
Though All Hallow’s Eve will continue until late into the night, the first day of Grand Prix Indianapolis is over! After a long day of nine hard-fought rounds (and a little special Halloween present about a certain dark future...) the players are ready to rest.
They’ll be the ones with targets on their backs tomorrow.
Battle for Zendikar Standard is out of its infancy and is fully swinging. Dragons, rhinos, mantises, and giant, otherworldly, god-like Eldrazi abound at the top tables. We’ll see which monsters can end up on top on Sunday
We start nice and early tomorrow at twitch.tv/magic2. But slightly less early because we change our clocks back tonight. See you then!
