Quick Question: Top 3 Planeswalkers in Standard

Posted in Event Coverage on May 28, 2016

Looking at the top decks in Standard at the moment, there could hardly be any doubt that planeswalkers played a central role in the format. But which planeswalkers are actually the best? We asked a few of the more notable players in attendance at Grand Prix Manchester for their Top 3 …

Patrick Dickmann, Pro Tour Oath of the Gatewatch semifinalist: Gideon, Ally of Zendikar in first place, that's for sure. Then either Chandra, Flamecaller or Nissa, Voice of Zendikar. Chandra is more powerful in general but has utility for fewer decks.

Christoffer Larsen, three-time Grand Prix Top 8 competitor: Nissa, Voice of Zendikar, Gideon, Ally of Zendikar, and Nahiri, the Harbinger. Gideon is in first place if you're on the play, Nissa is better on the draw.

Petr Sochůrek, champion of Grand Prix Paris 2016: Gideon, Ally of Zendikar, Chandra, Flamecaller, and Nissa, Voice of Zendikar.

Joel Larsson, champion of Pro Tour Magic Origins: Nahiri, the Harbinger in first place, then Nissa, Voice of Zendikar and Ob Nixilis Reignited. I don't like Gideon at the moment.

Craig Jones, finalist at Pro Tour Honolulu 2006: Even if Jace, Telepath Unbound did count, none of the Jaces are actually good right now. Arlinn Kord never took off and Nahiri, the Harbinger is better in Modern. For Standard, it's Gideon, Nissa, and Chandra, in that order.
