Top 8 Coverage
Daniel Cecchetti was not the only player to display the power of Mastery of the Unseen at Grand Prix Miami, but he was the certainly the last one standing at the end of a weekend filled with monstrous plays, lots of life gain, and a ton of manifested creatures.
Easily the defining story of the weekend, Mastery of the Unseen exploded onto the tournament scene through the brand new Green-White Devotion deck, a result of players such as eleventh-ranked Samuel Black discovering the enchantment's potential at Grand Prix Memphis when playing the card out of Red-White Aggro's sideboard.
The card did some monumentally heavy-lifting for both Samuel Black's team and local play-group, and it was Madison resident Cecchetti who saw the most success from his friend's discovery. The deck allowed him to slog through one opponent after another, getting him to the finals against Corey Baumeister, Brad Nelson's little brother.
Baumeister was playing the Roanoke play-group's version of the deck, but ultimately it was not to be for him. Cecchetti's ridiculous amount of mana, Temur Sabersooth, and both Reclamation Sage as well as Polukranos, World Eater allowed the Madison resident to dispatch his opponent's non-land permanents until the only thing left to claim from Baumeister was handshake.
Mastery of the Unseen has showcased its power through not only Cecchetti's victory, but its performance all weekend. Now, as the ebb and flow of Standard adjusts to a new set in the coming weeks, we can only wait and see where the metagame lands to adjust to this new powerhouse.
Day 2 Coverage
Welcome to Day Two of Grand Prix Miami! Of the 1,387 players that started off in the main event, only 152 have returned to compete in the final six rounds of swiss before a cut to the Top 8.
Leading the Day Two competitors are the undefeated players Andrew Boswell, Ryan Grodzinski, Royce Walter, and Adam Yurchick. Following closely behind them are a slew of locals and pro players, meaning this tournament was far from decided.

Day 1 Coverage
While 1,387 sailed into Miami this weekend for the last Standard Grand Prix before Dragons of Tarkir shakes up the format, only 152 navigated the stormy seas of Saturday for the right to return for Day 2. That group is headlined by four 9-0 players, with Andrew Boswell, Ryan Grodzinski, Royce Walter, and Adam Yurchick each booking passage in the first-class cabin of the undefeated for their return voyage tomorrow.
They will have their hands full on Sunday, with a number of heavy-hitting pros close in their wake as players try to fight their way to the Top 8. Those still hovering near the top of the standings with 8-1 records include multiple Top 25-ranked pros in the form of No. 6. William Jensen and No. 12 Yuuya Watanabe, as well as Jesse Hampton, fresh off a semifinals appearance at Pro Tour Fate Reforged, Pro Tour Dragon's Maze Champion Craig Wescoe, and Standard aficianado Brad Nelson, who is looking to put back-to-back Top 8 Grand Prix finishes.
Tune in tomorrow as coverage resumes at 9 a.m. EDT / 6 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. GMT on the Magic website.
