TOP 8 COVERAGE
Going into the weekend, there was only one thing No. 2 Jérémy Dezani could do to dethrone (1) Reid Duke as the leader in the 2013–2014 Player of the Year race. He needed to win, and that's exactly what he did.
To do so he needed to best 1,146 other players. About a thousand of them were eliminated on Day 1 as only 148 managed to win seven or more of their rounds in the Sealed Deck portion of the event. Another 140 were eliminated after the two booster drafts on Day 2. Joining Ivan Floch, Nico Bohny, Timothée Simonot, and Marcio Carvalho in a star-studded Top 8, he personally eliminated Carvalho and Bohny to claim the title!
Grand Prix Milan, along with Grand Prix Washington D.C., marks the end of Theros/Born of the Gods/Journey into Nyx Limited at the Grand Prix level. Since the format was well-explored there were no truly new insights this weekend. Instead, players built upon their experience to showcase the interesting and intricate nature of the format for one final time.
Now it's time for us to say goodbye. Goodbye, Theros, and congratulations to Jérémy Dezani, champion of Grand Prix Milan 2014!
DAY 2 COVERAGE
Play on Day 2 of Grand Prix Milan 2014 has commenced and that means booster draft! Yesterday, players here in Milan and at the Grand Prix in Washington D.C. had said goodbye to the Theros/Born of the Gods/Journey into Nyx Sealed Deck format, and today is the final curtain call for Theros/Born of the Gods/Journey into Nyx Booster Draft at Grand Prix.
Taking part in the first two drafts of the day will be 148 players. They escaped the carnage of yesterday's grueling nine rounds with records of 7-2 or better. Of those 148, four players lead the field at the start of the day with perfect scores of 9-0: Mikael Magnusson, Flavio Koepfli, Sergey Ryaboshuk, and Timothée Simonot.
These four may have a head start over the competition but serious contenders are not far behind, with Nico Bohny, Ivan Floch, Lukas Blohon, Javier Dominguez, Pierre Dagen, (2) Jérémy Dezani, Jamie Parke, Patrick Dickmann, Wenzel Krautmann, Florian Koch, Martin Jůza, (22) Raphaël Lévy, Frank Karsten, Guillaume Wafo-Tapa, Marijn Lybaert, Anssi Alkio, Fabrizio Anteri and a host of others all having made the cut to Day 2.
