Alex Bianchi with Jeskai Twin was the last of 2,679 players standing in a weekend where Modern's classic archetypes made a comeback.
TOP 8 COVERAGE
Along with many of his fellow Top 8 contenders, Alex Bianchi with Jeskai Twin took Modern to task and proved that old decks still have the best tricks, defeating Aaron Webster's Affinity in the finals of Grand Prix Pittsburgh.
2,679 players started the Modern Constructed weekend, bringing a wide range of decks that advanced into Day 2. While Craig Wescoe's Green-White aggro and Corey Burkhart's Grixis Control were interesting wrinkles to make the Top 8 cut from the Sunday returners, the remainder of the finale was full of classic archetypes including three Splinter Twin options, two Affinity Decks, and a Primeval Titan-packing and Cinder Glade-updated Scapeshift throwback.
Modern is still full of possibilities, but with plenty of focus on emerging archetypes like Amulet Bloom and Goryo's Vengeance distracting players it was a weekend where the oldest decks found their newest victories. And for Alex Bianchi, taking the trophy from his first grand Prix Top 8 won't a feeling that feels old anytime soon.
Congratulations to Alex Bianchi, champion of Grand Prix Pittsburgh!
