TOP 8 COVERAGE
Jarvis Yu has been a longtime player and writer, but despite his best efforts, a premier event Top 8 had always eluded him.
That is, until now.
Yu finally made it into his very first Grand Prix Top 8, with his Lands deck serving him strongly as a great metagame call against a Legacy Constructed format that featured numerous decks aiming to ultimately win with creatures. His deck's strength, particularly against Delver of Secrets, was given the grandest of stages in the finals against Christian Calcano, where Yu's Lands deck firmly locked Calcano from any means of coming back. Once Calcano was left without a land in sight thanks to recurring Wastelands, Thespian's Stage and Dark Depths presented a lethal Marit Lage token, winning Yu the tournament in legendary fashion.
Legacy this weekend showcased the familiar faces of the format, with the lands being among the most powerful cards you can play. Yu simply chose to play almost all of them, earning his very first title after many years of trying. Congratulations to him, and we'll see Jarvis Yu at Pro Tour Oath of the Gatewatch in February 2016.
