TOP 8 COVERAGE
Davide Vergoni didn't exactly come out of nowhere and certainly was no stranger to the competitive Magic scene before this event. In fact, he started playing Magic twenty years ago, thanks to his brother who taught him the game in 1995. However, this event marked the first time the 30-year-old Italian had been able to reach the Top 8 of a Grand Prix. And he certainly made it count, claimed the title and the trophy, and made Magic history.
The format for Grand Prix Utrecht was, of course, Modern Masters 2015 Edition Limited, one of the most challenging but also rewarding environments for drafters and deck builders alike. Throughout the tournament we had seen powerful artifact decks and green/white token strategies, Spirits and Elementals, but in the end two multicolored decks met in the finals. There, Vergoni's version easily bested Lars Rosengren's version despite the latter's five Tribal Flames
Congratulations to Davide Vergoni, champion (and master) of Grand Prix Utrecht 2015!
