Twelve Pro Tour Top 8s, Pro Tour Hall of Fame member, Pro Tour champion. It seemed difficult to believe that Brazil’s Paulo Vitor Damo da Rosa, already in the conversation with Jon Finkel and Kai Budde as Magic history’s greatest player, could continue to make his already stellar resume even more impressive.
Pro Tour Hour of Devastation did just that.
Navigating a difficult field with the deck of the tournament—Ramunap Red—Damo da Rosa dodged precarious situations and ultimately ended this weekend in Kyoto, Japan with his second Pro Tour title. Not only that, but Damo da Rosa’s victory earned him the 2016-17 Player of the Year title in what seemed to be insurmountable for frontrunner Márcio Carvalho to lose. It was the first time in Magic history that the Player of the Year title has gone to South America.
Damo da Rosa has once again proven why he is one of the game’s all-time best, and that he’s far from slowing down.
