『戦乱のゼンディカー』後のスタンダードで行われる大会の結果も出始め、この新たな環境でどんなデッキが活躍できるのか、私たちにも少しずつ見えてきましたね。本日ご紹介するデッキは、マジック開発部でインターンを経験したこともあるプロ・プレイヤー、ジェリー・トンプソン/Gerry Thompsonが作成したものです。ジェリーはどの環境でもデッキビルダーであり、もちろん『戦乱のゼンディカー』発売後に初めて行われたスタンダードの大規模イベントでも、彼は自作のデッキを持ち込みました。
《白日の下に》は、FFL（フューチャー・フューチャー・リーグという、プレイテストを目的に社内にてスタンダードで行われるリーグ戦）でも多く使われました。このカードは、特定の状況に対する的確な脅威や解答を探し出して戦う「ツールボックス」スタイルのデッキにおいて最高の１枚です。デッキリストをご覧の通り、ジェリーは《白日の下に》を４枚採用し、様々なカードを１枚挿ししています。全体除去に盤面の脅威となるもの、それからカードを引く手段、そして様々な除去やプレインズウォーカーが、《白日の下に》でサーチできるようになっているのです。
このデッキが機能するのは、マナ基盤によるところが大きいでしょう。デッキの土地の大部分を占めるのは、色を揃えるのに欠かせない『タルキール覇王譚』の「フェッチ・ランド」です。例えば、《血染めのぬかるみ》は言うまでもなく赤や黒のマナを用意できますが、なんと緑（《燃えがらの林間地》）や青（《窪み渓谷》）まで持ってくることができるのです。つまり各「フェッチ・ランド」がそれぞれ４色を扱うことができるため、このような５色デッキがきちんと機能するわけです。
それから、プレインズウォーカーたちもこのデッキの動きを助けてくれます。ご覧の通り、ジェリーは《ヴリンの神童、ジェイス》４枚と《巨森の予見者、ニッサ》２枚を採用していますね。これらはゲーム序盤から展開することができ、ドローの質を上げたり土地を持ってきたり、カード・アドバンテージを得たりと、必要に応じた働きを見せてくれます。また「フェッチ・ランド」満載のこのデッキでは、墓地が素早く肥え、早ければ《ヴリンの神童、ジェイス》が３ターン目に「変身」するのです。
「５色『白日の下に』」は、現在のスタンダード環境で最も多芸なデッキのひとつであり、何が目の前に立ちはだかろうとも解答を用意できるでしょう。速度はやや遅いところがありますが、ひとたびすべての色が揃えば、このデッキを止めるのは決して容易でないはずです。
