1785人のプレイヤーが初春の名古屋に集った。
今回のグランプリ・名古屋2014は、初日に『テーロス』３パック、『神々の軍勢』３パックでのシールド戦を９回戦が行われる。さらに、２日目は初日の勝ち点が21点以上のプレイヤーによる、『神々の軍勢』１パック、『テーロス』２パックを使用したブースタードラフト３回戦を２回行い、トップ８を決定する。最後にトップ８のプレイヤーによってもう一回ブースタードラフトが行われ、チャンピオンの決定となる。
シールドは、環境にある個々のカードの評価、渡されたシールドプールから短時間でデッキを組み上げるデッキの構築能力、あまり強くないコモンカードをうまく使いこなすプレイング力といった、マジックプレイヤーとしての基礎体力を試されるレギュレーションである。
ここでは、本日のシールド戦でのあるプレイヤーのデッキ構築について取り上げてみたい。そのプレイヤーとは、

目につくレアは《威名の英雄》くらいだろうか。また、除去はどのカラーにも満遍なくあり、どのカラーリングでデッキを構築した場合も除去呪文が少なく、相手の脅威に対処できないということはなさそうだ。
デッキ構築
構築時間の開始とともに、仲田は早速プレイアブルなカードとアンプレイアブルなカードを素早くより分けていく。除去は豊富にあるものの、クリーチャーの最大サイズが《国境地帯のミノタウルス》であり心許ない赤をまずは切って検討を始めた。いったん緑と白のカードを見つめるも、デッキの形を並べ始めたのは、白青の英雄的デッキ。
《戦識の重装歩兵》、《威名の英雄》、《天馬の乗り手》、《波濤砕きのトリトン》といった優秀な英雄的クリーチャーと、《希望の幻霊》、《撤回のらせん》等の対象を取ることができるカードが豊富にあり、さっと23枚のカードを揃えた。ややクリーチャーは少ないものの英雄的クリーチャーを引いて除去されなければ次のターンに授与をして大きく有利がとれる解りやすさに好感が持てる。ここまでものの５分。
しかし今のは準備運動とばかりに、仲田はそのデッキをいったん崩して、ゼロベースから別の構築のアイディアを模索し始める。確かにひと目で白青の英雄的デッキは組めるのだが、他の構築のほうが良いことも十分に考えられる。ここで、仲田が次に組んだのか白黒の英雄的デッキ。《苛まれし英雄》から始まるビートダウンはかなり強烈である。仲田はこのカラーリングで組み上げようとしたが、自身のクリーチャーを対象に取れるカードが黒に少なく、途中で諦めてしまった。英雄的を軸としたデッキとしては、白青がいちばん良いという結論を出したようだ。
検討は更に続く。次は、《ネシアンのアスプ》、《クルフィックスの狩猟者》といった緑の優秀なクリーチャーを軸にした、いわゆる「がっちり系」のデッキの構築を模索し始めた。結果としてペアリングさせたのは豊富な除去を要する黒。緑黒デッキの細かい部分を調整しているところでデッキリスト提出の時間が近づき、最終的に仲田が登録用紙に記入したのは下記のデッキだった。

デッキ構築後インタビュー
――結局白青英雄的デッキを登録されました。他の組み方もいくつか検討されていたようですが、白青にした決め手はなんでしょうか？
仲田「やはり、英雄的クリーチャー、授与、勝った！の勝ちパターンがあるのが大きいですね。」
――白黒、緑黒といった組み方も検討していたようですが？
仲田「白黒は英雄的を誘発できるカードの枚数が青に比べて足りないので、白青と白黒では白青のほうが良いと判断しました。緑黒はカードパワー的には白青より優秀ですね。サイドボード後などに使用する可能性はあると思いますよ」
――では、なぜメインデッキを緑黒ではなく、白青にしたのでしょうか。
仲田「今回の環境は、とにかくビートダウン優勢こそが正義だと思ってます。今回の緑黒は、たしかにがっちりしているのですが、長引いた後の決め手が無く、逆に相手から出されたプレインズウォーカーのような決め手のカードに対処できないんですよね。こちらのビートダウンより相手のビートダウンのほうが強いと感じた場合は、サイド後に緑黒にシフトするかもしれません。」
――ありがとうございます。ちなみに、今回のグランプリに向けて、どのような環境で練習をされてきましたでしょうか。
仲田「（グランプリ・静岡の時にもニコ生等で話題に出た）長崎亭でやってました。原野（原野誉大選手。チームメイトであり、予選を突破してプロツアー『ニクスへの旅』出場予定）とかと一緒に練習してたんですけど、グランプリ・神戸2012で優勝している平賀（優宏）さんにリミテッドの基本的な考え方から教えてもらいました。」
グランプリ優勝やプロツアー予選突破経験のあるメンバーが自然と集い、切磋琢磨する中でまた各々のレベルが上がっていく。
そんなコミュニティで、ともに練習してくれるメンバーへの感謝が言葉の端々からにじみ出ていた仲田の健闘を期待したい。
