赤白コントロール、ゴブリン、ゾンビ招集。幾度となく三つ巴のバトルが繰り広げられた後に、最後に残ったのは二つの赤白コントロール。使い手の一人は東京の小室修。もう一人が名古屋の加藤一喜。何れのプレイヤーも、これまでに目立った成績を残していない新しい血筋。どちらが勝つにしても、また日本のマジック界に新たなサイヤーラインが築かれれるはずだ。
Game 1
展開の大味な赤白コントロール対決だが、序盤にも幾つかのポイントがある。それは
1. 2 ターン目の《銀騎士/Silver Knight》または《稲妻の裂け目/Lightning Rift》
2. 《稲妻の裂け目/Lightning Rift》が相手に無い場合の、3 ターン目変異
この序盤の攻防が終わり、中盤以降になるとゲームの行方は複雑さを増す。それは如何にして主導権を握ったまま《滅殺の命令/Decree of Annihilation》を打つかである。メインで最も解りやすい主導権は《怒りの天使アクローマ/Akroma, Angel of Wrath》だ。だが、大抵の場合にはそうはいかずに、複数のクリーチャーや《霊体の地滑り/Astral Slide》、そして全てを流す《アクローマの復讐/Akroma's Vengeance》によって状況はターン事に激しく模様替えを行い、混沌とするのである。
このゲームでは、小室が先にこの条件をクリアした。3 ターン目、互いに唯一の変異である《賛美されし天使/Exalted Angel》を場にそっと出す。加藤がこれにろくな対応を行え無いのを見ると更に《銀騎士/Silver Knight》を追加で召還。
思うように防御系カードを引けない加藤。なんとか《霊体の地滑り/Astral Slide》を引き当て、サイクリング効果で天使の攻撃を一時凌ぎの繰り返しによって防ぐものの、ライフは《銀騎士/Silver Knight》の攻撃によって着実に減っていく。そのライフが 12 にまで減ったところで、更に小室が動いた。
《正義の命令/Decree of Justice》
サイクリング効果によって更に二つのトークンを。ちょっと照れながら、持参したトークンを場に置く。別記事の Top 8 Profile でも話題にあがったそのトークンカードは...
娘。 ...ですか。
天使、銀騎士、二体の娘トークン。加藤はどうにかこうにか《霊体の地滑り/Astral Slide》を使用し、天使だけはレッドゾーンから取り除いたものの、残りの攻撃によってライフを 8 まで減らされてしまう。
攻撃終了後。小室はおもむろに全てのマナをタップし宣言する。最後の言葉を。
「サイクリングで《滅殺の命令/Decree of Annihilation》」

Game 2
《邪神の寺院/Temple of the False God》、タップイン山、《永遠のドラゴン/Eternal Dragon》。マナソースはたったこれだけというかなり微妙な手札を先手でキープした加藤。2 ターン目に土地を引けなかった時には、早くもレポートはこれで終わりかと思ったりしてしまったが、3 ターン目になんとか山を引き当てる。とにもかくにもこれで白マナ赤マナソースが共に揃ったわけだ。
しかし、このゲームでも先に主導権を握ったのは小室。3 ターン目には変異で《賛美されし天使/Exalted Angel》を召還し、更に《稲妻の裂け目/Lightning Rift》を。
劣勢であってはならないが、有利すぎてもいけない。これが赤白コントロール対決の難しいところだ。小室側には二つのパーマネント。加藤側には何も無し。この状況は《アクローマの復讐/Akroma's Vengeance》を打つのに十分すぎる状況だった。
逆に小室側が誘った場合もあり得るが、とにかく加藤が使用した《アクローマの復讐/Akroma's Vengeance》によって土地だけが残された。小室は追加で攻撃要素を出せずに《アクローマの復讐/Akroma's Vengeance》をサイクリングで使用しカードを求めるにとどまる。
しばしのターンが経過した後に、ついに小室が動いた。今まで貯めに貯めたマナと力を注ぎ込み、最強の天女を召還する。《怒りの天使アクローマ/Akroma, Angel of Wrath》だ。
序盤の《賛美されし天使/Exalted Angel》によって、この時点のライフは加藤 16、小室 24。パワー 6 のアクローマは僅か 4 ターンにしてこのライフを根こそぎ奪う。
しかし、《翼の破片/Wing Shards》を警戒した加藤はこのターンには攻撃を行わず、必殺の時を待つことにした。
最強の天使を前に、何か手を講じなければならない小室。しかし、動かず。ただしきりに加藤の手札と場・墓地のリソース数だけを確認するのみ。
これを見た加藤はどう判断したのだろうか。本当に何も無いのか、何かの動きを待っているのか。加藤の脳内で小室のデッキリストに鬼検索がかかりまくる。《奉納/Oblation》ならば構いやしない。可能性は残っているが、それはたった一枚だ。大丈夫。あり得ない。
「赤白の 2 マナを残して、サイクリングで《滅殺の命令/Decree of Annihilation》」
今度は加藤が最後の言葉を唱えた。
しかし、小室は動いた。まず 3 マナを。そして残りを。《正義の命令/Decree of Justice》の効果によって、場には再びずらりとトークンが集結する。
逆転の方策は無いはずだった。60 枚のメインデッキには当初入っていなかった。しかし、友人からトークンと共に渡された 61 枚目のカードがあり得ないはずの逆転を演出した。あふれ出たトークンは《怒りの天使アクローマ/Akroma, Angel of Wrath》の刃に一体ずつ数を減らしながらも、確実に 1 ターンだけ早く加藤を屠る。序盤に与えた《賛美されし天使/Exalted Angel》の一撃が、このトリックを可能とした。
加藤が放った最後の言葉は、己への手向けとなった。
