What Is the Magic Online Bug Blog?

While the Known Issues List is simply that—a running list of issues we expect players to encounter most often—this accompanying “Bug Blog” is the list’s companion. Here you’ll find updates regarding emergent new issues, details around issue statuses when applicable, known issue workarounds, and a running tally of Known Issues List updates. The Bug Blog posts to every other Thursday.

Known Issues List Updates

Today, we have a long list of fixes to report from the Wednesday, April 22, deployment that address many of the Dragons of Tarkir known issues mentioned in the last Bug Blog.

We've added two new known issues since the last Bug Blog. One affects searching for Tempest Remastered within the Collection Scene and trading cards from the set in the Trade Scene. This issue is scheduled for a fix during the Wednesday, May 27 deployment. The second is a bug that dims your opening hand when determining whether you will mulligan or not. We're investigating what caused this, and will update players when we have a date that it will be fixed.

The Known Issues List has been updated to reflect these changes, so refer to that resource for the most up-to-date statuses on Magic Online known issues. If you want to see the history of fixed known issues, refer to the archive.

Newly Added Known Issues as of Thursday, April 23


  • Duel Scene | Opening hand is dimmed when determining mulligans
  • TPR | The Tempest Remastered Cardset is set to be hidden if unowned. If a player owns no Tempest Remastered cards, the Tempest Remastered filter cannot be selected as a possible format, even if the player has the quantity filter set to 0. Because of this issue, a player who doesn't own any TPR cards cannot place any of those cards in their wishlist.

Newly Scheduled Fixes for the Wednesday, May 27 Deployment


  • TPR | The Tempest Remastered Cardset is set to be hidden if unowned. If a player owns no Tempest Remastered cards, the Tempest Remastered filter cannot be selected as a possible format, even if the player has the quantity filter set to 0. Because of this issue, a player who doesn't own any TPR cards cannot place any of those cards in their wishlist.

Fixed During the Wednesday, April 22 Magic Online Client Update

Game Play

  • Duel Scene | Fixed a crash that would occasionally occur when a player was required to split damage.
  • BNG | Courser of Kruphix now reveals the top card of library if no land plays are left after casting See the Unwritten.
  • BNG | Retraction Helix properly displays the grafted ability on the targeted creature.
  • Cardset | Priority is now passed correctly for a player who is attacking with a creature that has non-mana costs to attack.
  • DIS | Protean Hulk updated to ensure it can only put the correct amount of creatures onto the battlefield.
  • DTK | Blessed Reincarnation properly shuffles target creature owner's library.
  • DTK | Corpseweft's activated ability has been updated to display the correct X value on the stack as blue rules text.
  • DTK | Kolaghan's Command no longer deals damage to a creature and a player when using the discard mode.
  • DTK | Living Lore now correctly recognizes split cards mana costs and is able to select split cards in the graveyard as valid targets.
  • DTK | Having out multiple Enduring Scalelords will no longer be able to lead to a game restart.
  • DTK | Mana created by Qarsi Deceiver now correctly can only be used to cast a face-down creature spell, pay a mana cost to turn a manifested creature face up, or pay a morph cost.
  • DTK | The F2 control will no longer cancel the search for a land using Fetchlands.
  • Duel Scene | Balustrade Spy's trigger now functions correctly if the target player's deck contains no lands.
  • Duel Scene | Catch // Release fixed to prevent a game hang if a player can't sacrifice a permanent of each type.
  • Duel Scene | Goblinslide’s effect now correctly untaps lands when cancelled by the player.
  • Duel Scene | Jarad's Orders updated so second card clicked isn’t put into opponent's graveyard.
  • Duel Scene | Ruthless Deathfang has been fixed so its trigger will occur multiple times when it and other creatures are sacrificed simultaneously by their controller.
  • Duel Scene | Scale Blessing no longer causes additional triggers for Enduring Scalelord if creatures died with +1/+1 counters on them.
  • Duel Scene | Stolen Goods properly exiles the last card in a library when appropriate.
  • Duel Scene | Art is no longer "locked" in peek position if opponent gains control of manifested card while peeking at it.
  • Duel Scene | Players will no longer be prompted to pay mana in addition to the life cost when Athreos, God of Passage triggers.
  • Duel Scene | We have reverted work done around how triggers were being automatically stacked. This change will allow players to properly stack triggers from cards such as Amulet of Vigor. If you want your triggers to stack automatically, F7 is the default hotkey for doing so.
  • General | Lands can now be played off Hideaway lands.
  • General | When a player uses Thirst for Knowledge and is prompted to discard, highlighting has been updated so all cards in the player’s hand have the same appearance.
  • JOU | Daring Thief is now able to target opponent's lands that share a type with your permanent.
  • M11 | Protean Hydra properly gains counters after preventing damage.


  • Card Display | Hybrid cards have been updated to display the correct title and type plaques.
  • Building, Trade | We have increased the areas in which selections in one scene carry over to other scenes such as when deck building or trading. An example of this is if change your settings such that you build a Limited deck in List view, when you enter Sideboarding the List view selection will be maintained.
  • Chat | Players can now copy/paste large amounts of text from the Chat area of the client without erroneous characters appearing.
  • Collection Scene | Improved the speed and memory footprint of navigating to and from the Collection Scene.
  • Collection Scene | The “Loading Card Collection” message will no longer display if the game is minimized during the loading process.
  • Collection Scene | Type line displays correctly for cards from sets older than Eighth Edition.
  • Collection Scene | When making a copy of a deck, the copy's name now respects character limits for deck names.
  • Duel Scene | Cards with the Nyx background have been updated to display the correct color background when their abilities are on the stack.
  • Event Details | Players would crash if they attempted to edit details around names of events.
  • General | Removed a blank space in certain context menus.
  • Memory Leak | Fixed a memory leak that would be caused on rare occasion by foil animations.
  • Replay | Game numbers are now properly labeled as such while loading up a replay. The game number can be found on the top title bar while watching a replay.
  • Sideboarding | Fixed an issue that would cause cards to be duplicated while in the Sideboard Scene which would then prevent the player from submitting their deck.
  • TPR | The targets for the second activated ability of Thopter Squadron are now highlighted uniformly instead of in two colors.
  • Trade | Fixed a crash that could occur when you were trading with the same trade partner as you had traded with previously.
  • Watcher Mode | Fixed a couple of crashes that would occur for watchers as they joined a match in progress. In addition, fixed an issue where a watcher would only see select cards if they had watched a prior game of the match.


  • Collection Scene | Fixed a crash that would occur when a player had an existing but invalidly named trade binder.
  • Event Details | Countdown timer for events now displays correct time remaining even if user has an inaccurate time set on their local clock.
  • Store | Fixed a crash that would occur if a player navigated to the Store Scene before the Store data was loaded.

Temporary Workarounds for Known Issues

We're hard at work on whittling down the Known Issues List. In the meantime, we've found temporary solutions that may help alleviate certain problems that players are experiencing. Refer to the table below to see if there is a suggested temporary workaround for an issue that you are experiencing.

Game Play

Issue Description Temporary Workaround
General | Umezawa's Jitte counters are obscured by the equipped creature. Players can use card zoom or the preview pane to determine the number of counters.


Issue Description Temporary Workaround
General | Players can experience memory leaks in some situations. Restarting the client can temporarily resolve these issues.
Collection | Certain preconstructed decks do not create decklists upon opening them. If you are experiencing this issue with a preconstructed deck, locate the product within the Card Set Archive to download the decklist directly.
Collection | Dragging or adding a large number of cards to a deck or trade binder causes Magic Online to freeze while processing, resulting in a "Main Navigation is Not Responding" error. While the client is not responsive, waiting several minutes will allow the process to complete. Using the error dialog to close the client will cancel the transaction.
Duel Scene | Cancellation message appears if user does not return to play lobby after a duel has concluded. When you finish playing in an event, please close the Event Details window. If this window remains open in the background, within minutes it will incorrectly display an error message indicating that the event has been canceled with your entry option returned. We are currently working on a fix for this issue.
Duel Scene | Land can visually appear tapped at the start of a turn if a player unmorphs a creature during their opponent's end step. The issue is visual only and clicking the tapped lands will add mana to the mana pool correctly.
Sideboard Issues:
  • Duel Scene | Black game screen after sideboarding.
  • Sideboard | Extra cards are sometimes added to a player's deck in addition to their choices when Sideboarding.
  • Sideboard | User is able to visually duplicate cards in deck by rapidly dragging and dropping during Sideboarding.
These issues seem to be tied to the player's computer going to sleep during deckbuilding. Making it so that your computer does not go into hibernation may alleviate these issues if you're experiencing them.
Store | Updating billing and shipping information during the checkout process can have inconsistent results. Players who update from the Account Settings page should not have issues.

Duel Scene | Both players show as waiting for opponent, one player times out. If you suspect this is happening to you, logging out and back in may resolve the problem.
