Hi, everyone.

When we previously posted about the Secret Lair x MSCHF: The Zeta Set sale from Secret Lair's Chaos Vault, I said we'd come back once we understood what went wrong. Below, we'll share what happened during the sale and how we're trying to make up for the poor experience.

This Wasn't the Experience You Deserve

Here's what the investigation, led by Secret Lair's processing partner, found: This was not simply a case of the product selling faster than we expected. Early in the sale, the systems supporting the launch experienced an external service disruption. Our partners took immediate steps to restore stability, but, obviously, this impacted the entire sale.

Despite the disruption, Secret Lair x MSCHF: The Zeta Set sold out. I know how that looks from the outside: Sell-out usually reads as a win. It wasn't. A sale isn't a success just because inventory hits zero. Getting a limited product is never guaranteed, however, there is a level of fairness we try to apply to it. We keep the line moving in order, process orders as fast as possible, and send you a confirmation message when the process is complete. When a particular product sells out, we inform the line and you can choose to continue waiting for others or move on with your day.

Instead, a lot of you spent your time watching a queue that wasn't moving, or hitting an error at checkout, or refreshing your inbox waiting on a confirmation email that never came. Some of you weren't sure for hours whether you'd bought anything at all. That's a terrible experience, no matter the cause. You showed up for something you were excited about, and we handed you a frustrating experience. You deserve better than that from us; not as a courtesy, but as a baseline. Every time.

The Queue Pause—This One Is on Me

I want to apologize for one thing specifically, because there needs to be an accountability to decisions, and this one was my call.

When the backend systems were strained, I made the call to pause the queue. That was the right technical decision, as letting people through to a checkout that couldn't process their order would have made everything worse. Our inventory was still reporting enough stock that once unpaused, we were still expecting to fulfill a significant number of orders for those of you waiting. However, as we finished processing, the backlog was much larger than expected and inventory quickly normalized to show we were much closer to selling out than initially estimated.

The result was thousands of you sat in a waiting room for roughly an extra hour and a half, with no real information, and only a select few were able to get the last remnants of stock as we brought the sale back online.

That's the worst version of this. You gave us your time, you were patient, and a lot of you felt let down. I am sorry. Genuinely. If you waited and walked away empty-handed, I understand why you're angry, and I'd be angry, too.

I don't want the disruption to become a shield, because in a world where this specific disruption doesn't happen, there are still other things related to this release we are addressing for the long term.

What Happens Next?

As a follow-up to our investigation, here's where things stand with order processing.

If you placed an order for Secret Lair x MSCHF: The Zeta Set, you should have received your confirmation email by now. I apologize this took several days as we worked through a backlog of orders that needed manual review.

If you still haven't received a confirmation email and believe you completed an order, please reach out to our Customer Support team and they'll confirm your order status.

Orders are estimated to begin shipping November 5 from our North America store and December 8 in Europe and the United Kingdom. We'll be sure to let you know as soon as possible if any of this changes.

Which leaves the bigger question, and the one I've spent the most time on: What about everyone who never made it out of the queue?

Between orders we canceled and ones that failed outright, we have some stock back. Our first instinct was to put it straight up for sale and get it into as many hands as we could. But the numbers aren't close. Far more of you want Secret Lair x MSCHF: The Zeta Set than there are copies in that pile, and putting them up would just mean another queue, another race, another event where most people walk away with nothing.

So, we're doing something else. We're running it back.

On December 9, 2026, Secret Lair x MSCHF: The Zeta Set will go on sale again for a single 24-hour limited order window. No setting an alarm for a specific minute and hoping. If you want Secret Lair x MSCHF: The Zeta Set, everyone who orders it during that window will have it fulfilled. We estimate these orders to begin shipping in the second half of 2027. We'll provide more details on that estimated timing as we get closer to the sale.

Which brings us to those of you who did get a preorder through. Nothing has shipped, and most orders haven't been charged. If this change means Secret Lair x MSCHF: The Zeta Set isn't what you signed up for anymore, I understand completely, and you should feel no obligation to keep it. Submit a ticket here by October 9, 2026, and we'll cancel it as quickly as we can. No explanation needed. If you'd rather keep your order, you don't need to do anything at all; it'll be fulfilled exactly as planned and you'll be some of the first to receive it.

Thanks for reading, and thanks for sticking with us. We'll do better.
