Introducing In-Game Player Reporting
Today, we're announcing in-game player reporting, coming to MTG Arena with our update on August 18, 2026.
As we introduce more social features to MTG Arena, we want the spaces you play in to feel safe and welcoming. To do so, we need to provide better tools to help players moderate their spaces.
Where Can I Report?
At launch, we'll support player reporting from three locations:
- Options Menu: "Report Player" will now sit at the bottom of the menu next to "Report a Bug."
- Challenge Lobby: Under a player card in the Challenge Lobby, the "Report Player" button will appear alongside the other social and moderation buttons.
- Friends List: Right-click (or long-press on mobile) on a friend in the social blade and select "Report" right next to "Unfriend" and "Block."
Submitting a Report
From any of the locations above, players will be able to access the Player Report screen. From there, they'll pick a reason for the report from the drop-down, add any additional relevant details, and submit the report.
At launch, we'll have the following reasons to choose from:
- Inactivity: Idling in a match or intentionally slow play
- Hate Speech: Racism, sexism, homophobia, and similar conduct
- Inappropriate Username: An offensive or harmful display name
- Verbal Abuse: Harassment or harmful language
- Spamming: Advertising, phishing, solicitation, or repetition
Once a report is submitted, we'll confirm it has reached our Customer Service team for review. From there, it's on us.
How We Handle Reports
Behind the scenes, we've partnered with GGWP, a moderation platform used across the games industry, to help us organize and route the reports we get. For this first release, GGWP will help us gather better context around each report and sort them into a review queue. No reports will be actioned on automatically. Every one will be evaluated and actioned on by a person.
As we get more comfortable with the tool, and as our social features grow, we'll continue to work closely with GGWP and our Customer Service team to investigate where automation might help with the clearest, black-and-white cases while leaving anything that calls for a closer look with the Customer Service team.
This is another foundational step toward bringing more of the gathering to MTG Arena. We look forward to your feedback on it and improving our social features when it launches on August 18, 2026!
