A war for the fate of the Multiverse is coming … and its battlefield is your local game store! Reality Fracture tells the story of Jace Beleren, mind-mage, Planeswalker, and former ally to the Gatewatch, and his Echoverse full of warped versions of your favorite Magic characters. While the story of Reality Fracture has recently concluded (with more than a few surprises), you can become the hero or villain of your own tale at Reality Fracture Prerelease events, which kick off at participating local game stores on September 25, 2026.

Prerelease Pack

When you register for a Prerelease event, you'll receive a Prerelease Pack, complete with a Jace-themed box. Each Reality Fracture Prerelease Pack contains the following:

  • 6 Reality Fracture Play Boosters
  • 1 Traditional foil promo card
  • 1 Deck box
  • 1 Spindown die

You'll assemble a 40-card sealed deck using the contents of your Prerelease Pack and any number of basic lands. Then you'll play games against your fellow attendees' sealed decks to find out who is the best in the Echoverse. But despite the multiversal stakes of the set's story, these events are casual, laid-back gatherings for Magic players of all skill levels.

And if you are brand new, welcome! Reality Fracture is a mind-boggling trip through the best of what Magic has to offer, so buckle up for two realities worth of action. We've put together a quick guide to playing in a Reality Fracture Prerelease event to help prepare you for the experience. How Do I Build a Prerelease Deck?

Start by opening your six Play Boosters and sorting them by color, with a pile for multicolor cards, colorless artifacts, and lands. This will help you keep your cards organized as you decide what colors your deck should be. You'll want to find your two best colors and build a deck with those colors. While it is possible to be a deck with three or more colors of cards, you'll be stretching mana and could wind up locking yourself out of the game.

0040_MTGFRA_MainUP: Sphinx of False Conclusions 0063_MTGFRA_MainUP: Rise of the Deathbringer 0244_MTGFRA_MainPair: Chandra, Torch of Defiance

To start, look for the biggest, baddest, most mind-warping cards in your sealed pool. These are your threats, and they should threaten to win the game all on their own. Powerful evasive creatures like Sphinx of False Conclusions or planeswalkers like Chandra, Torch of Defiance are some of the best threats in Reality Fracture. You're likely to find your best threats among your rare and mythic rare cards, so be sure to consider those (after you've finished marveling at all the artwork, of course).

One or two good threats in a given color is a good reason to play that color. If you open Chandra, Torch of Defiance and Face Yourself, that's a strong sign that one of your deck's two colors should be red.

0067_MTGFRA_MainUP: Solve for Disappointment 0074_MTGFRA_MainUP: Awaken the Inferno

Once you know how you plan to win, it's time to stop your opponent from winning with removal. Removal spells are anything that gets rid of your opponents' threats. That includes spells like Countersculpt and discard effects like Solve for Disappointment, which can strip a threat from your opponent's hand before they have a chance to cast it.

Below, you'll find a list of key removal spells in this set. You can use this as a reference when building your deck or during gameplay.

Continuing the example above, say you open multiple black removal spells. By combining those with your red threats, you'll have the makings of a game-winning black-red deck and an acceptance letter to Stingerquill. Follow the flow of your threats and removal. After you have decided on your colors, it's time for the important part: actually building your deck.

Deck Building with the Mana Curve

Building a deck is much, much easier than building a Multiverse. You don't even have to overwrite reality to do it! Magic players have developed a helpful concept called the mana curve, which helps you balance the average mana value of your cards. This ensures your deck has enough low-cost spells to start off the game and some high-cost spells to finish off your opponent. Your average sealed deck should look something like this:

Graph of Mana Curve

  • 1 Mana: 1–2 cards
  • 2 Mana: 7–8 cards
  • 3 Mana: 5–6 cards
  • 4 Mana: 3–4 cards
  • 5 Mana: 2–3 cards
  • 6 Mana: 0–1 card
  • and 17 lands!

Remember: this is just a basic template. Adjust your deck according to the needs of your strategy. A slower, controlling deck will likely want more high-cost spells to close out the game, while an aggressive deck will skew toward low-cost creatures. To help you better understand where your deck falls on the control-to-aggro spectrum, let's look at the draft archetypes of Reality Fracture!

Reality Fracture Draft Archetypes

Draft archetypes are the backbone of Limited Magic. These tell you what each color combination is best at doing, how decks of those colors will play, and how you should expect to win. In Reality Fracture, there are ten two-color draft archetypes. The ally-color archetypes are tied to the colleges of Hexhaven and the enemy-color archetypes are tied to the major characters of Reality Fracture.

Your two-color deck will fall under one of these draft archetypes. When selecting the cards for your deck, think about which ones play into that archetype's core strategy. For example, say you're building a deck using the black-red archetype, which cares about aggressively damaging your opponent. While you could play Skilled Battlecarver, a red creature, there are cards like Hallway Heckler that do a better job of supporting your draft archetype. Note that you shouldn't disregard cards like Skilled Battlecarver in this situation. Skilled Battlecarver can fill out your mana curve, but Hallway Heckler can make your deck shine.

Below, you'll find a description of each draft archetype, along with some key common and uncommon cards that support that archetype. Use these archetypes as a guide when building your sealed deck or as inspiration for your next 60-card Constructed deck with cards from Reality Fracture!

Reality Fracture Draft Archetypes

White-Blue Fatehold Surveil Aggro White mana symbol Blue mana symbol

0133_MTGFRA_MainUP: Fatehold Chronologist 0146_MTGFRA_MainUP: Prudent Fateseer

Students of Fatehold turn their knowledge of the future into power. Do the same by surveilling and scrying with Your Fate Ends Here, Semester Foreseer, and your Jace tokens. Once you've set up your library with the best cards for the situation at hand, weaponize your learnings with Desperate Futurescribe and Proft, Consulting Detective.

Blue-Black Theorix Graveyard Math Blue mana symbol Black mana symbol

0143_MTGFRA_MainUP: Paradox Shaper 0156_MTGFRA_MainUP: Theorix Metamage

Theorix scholars bend the rules of math and their opponents' minds. Your goal is to get seven or more cards in your graveyard, so load up on self-mill effects like Theorix Metamage and low-cost spells like Unsummon. Once you've hit that threshold, cards like Void Extrapolator become even stronger. If you've filled your graveyard to the brim with creatures and planeswalkers, Winter, Tormented Loner can deliver a finishing blow.

Black-Red Stingerquill Face Burn Black mana symbol Red mana symbol

0151_MTGFRA_MainUP: Stingerquill Voxmancer 0164_MTGFRA_MainUP: Whiplash Wordsmith

Stingerquill's alumni wield their words like blades. Cut at your opponents and their creatures with direct-damage spells and removal effects like Essence Burn, Fulminous Forte, and Stingerquill Charm. Dealing noncombat damage enables Grim Repriser and other Stingerquill cards, letting you deliver a grim finale with a well-timed burn spell.

Red-Green Konstrari Mana Ramp Red mana symbol Green mana symbol

0139_MTGFRA_MainUP: Konstrari Improviser 0165_MTGFRA_MainUP: Woodwork Prodigy

Konstrari trains tethermages to build massive creations for the Theorist. Ramp with Heartwood tokens from Woodwork Prodigy and Konstrari Improviser. The additional mana provided by those tokens will let you cast your biggest creature spells way ahead of schedule, so don't be afraid to run multiple copies of Archive Arbiter or Vinelasher Adept. This deck's mana curve will likely lean more toward high-mana spells, so don't be afraid to break from tradition—just like a true Konstrari artisan.

Green-White Vigorbloom Life Gain Green mana symbol White mana symbol

0130_MTGFRA_MainUP: Emergency Phytomedic 0161_MTGFRA_MainUP: Vigorbloom Vanguard

To the Vigorbloom, medical aid and botany go hand in hand. Turn your own life gain into growth with Vigorbloom Vanguard, which heals you while putting +1/+1 counters on your creatures. This archetype cares about cultivating counters and your life total; make sure you're doing both. Graft Surgeon keeps your counters around after your creatures die, and Bloombrute keeps your hand stocked when you gain life.

White-Black Liliana's Attrition White mana symbol Black mana symbol

0270_MTGFRA_MainPair: Edgar, Ancient Bloodlord 0158_MTGFRA_MainUP: Twisted Fates

In the Echoverse, Liliana became a healer, not a necromancer. Focus on both sides of the grave by chipping away at your opponent with tiny creatures like Rank Rat and Campus Crier. Once those creatures have outlived their usefulness, turn their deaths into your reward with Edgar, Ancient Bloodlord or make them into something greater with Twisted Fates.

Blue-Red Chandra's Prowess Blue mana symbol Red mana symbol

0126_MTGFRA_MainUP: Clash of Elements 0275_MTGFRA_MainPair: Saheeli, Jewel of Avishkar

What if Chandra became a force for control rather than liberation? Establish your grip on the game with cards that care about noncreature spells, such as Saheeli, Jewel of Avishkar. Then, overwhelm the board with cheap spells like Unsummon and No Admittance, ensuring your cards keep triggering and your opponent can't keep a creature in play.

Black-Green Garruk's Bestiary Black mana symbol Green mana symbol

0271_MTGFRA_MainPair: Hapatra, the Desert Fang 0144_MTGFRA_MainUP: Primal Witchstalker

The Huntsman has become the very thing he sought to destroy! Follow the unrelenting path of Garruk with a stampede of value-generating creatures like Primal Witchstalker. Each creature you play brings a benefit, whether it's Teyo, Diamondblade Mage's protection or Hapatra, the Desert Fang's removal. If one of your creatures dies, don't worry. Just bring it back with Rewrite Regrets. It's your Multiverse, after all.

Red-White Ajani's Army Red mana symbol White mana symbol

0274_MTGFRA_MainPair: Mabel, Valley Hero 0163_MTGFRA_MainUP: Warrior's Blades

Ajani has always been a fighter, but his Echoverse counterpart is more fierce than friendly. Bring that spirit of aggression to your creatures in the form of +1/+1 counters. Look for sources of Cadet tokens like Hexhaven Battalion and Heartstring Puller, as these often provide more than one creature for the price of a single card. That speed is what will win you the game, especially when paired with a hefty Equipment like Warrior's Blades.

Green-Blue Jace's Mastery Green mana symbol Blue mana symbol

0273_MTGFRA_MainPair: Kiora of Salt and Sand 0141_MTGFRA_MainUP: Mind Meanderer

Jace, the man behind the Multiverse, is prepared to do anything to win. Start by empowering Jace, then continue to draw value from your planeswalker token over the course of the game. Kiora of Salt and Sand grants extra abilities to your Jace token, Countersculpt gets cheaper if you behold a Jace, and Inspired Tethermage grows alongside your facsimile of the mind-mage.
