Magic: The Gathering | The Hobbit Continues

We hope you're enjoying your journey with Magic: The Gathering | The Hobbit! There are two big events currently underway for those of you interested in putting your skills with the new set to the test!

Arena Direct for Magic: The Gathering | The Hobbit Sealed
(August 28–September 6)

The second Arena Direct event featuring Magic: The Gathering | The Hobbit began last week and will continue through September 6 (or until the event has filled up)! This event is made up of Best-of-One matches of Magic: The Gathering | The Hobbit Sealed and has a variety of prizes in store for victorious players. Three to five wins will earn gems and MTG Arena packs, and six or more wins will send Magic: The Gathering | The Hobbit Play Booster boxes, while supplies last, to you!

A new Contender Draft event featuring Magic: The Gathering | The Hobbit is being held and will run through September 29! Contender Drafts are structured like Premier Drafts but have their own matchmaking queue and prizing more like competitive events. Contender Draft is designed to be a bold, high-risk, high-reward battle. This event will not only put your competitive chops to the test, but it will also challenge your creative deckbuilding acumen as you take on other players in fierce matches.

The prizing structure adds Magic: The Gathering | The Hobbit mythic packs and a special "Draft Contender" player title to a trove of gems and MTG Arena packs.

Mixed-Up Premier Standard Draft
(September 4–18)

For those who prefer their draft environments to be a bit spicier, we're holding a Mixed-Up Premier Standard Draft from September 4–18! In a Mixed-Up Standard Draft, you'll draft from packs containing cards from a variety of Standard-legal sets to create a deck and battle other players in ranked, Best-of-One matches for a fun, unpredictable event.

  • Signup close: September 18, 2026, at 9 a.m. Pacific (16:00 UTC)

Premier Play

Qualifier Play-In events are single-day tournaments in which players compete to earn invitations to that month's Qualifier Weekend events.

Qualifier Weekend events are two-day events in which eligible players compete for invitations to upcoming Arena Championship events.

Qualifier tokens earned through seasonal rewards are delivered to your MTG Arena inbox. Remember to claim them before the event starts!

September Qualifier Format: Magic: The Gathering | The Hobbit Sealed

  • September 12: Best-of-One Qualifier Play-In
  • September 18: Best-of-Three Qualifier Play-In
  • September 19–20: Qualifier Weekend

September Season Rewards

Players will receive their rewards for the September 2026 season at the start of the October 2026 ranked season (12:05 p.m. PT on September 30).

You must have played at least one ranked game in the respective format to receive seasonal rewards.

  • Silver Reward: 1 Magic: The Gathering | The Hobbit pack + 500 gold
