From August 28–September 6, you can compete against other MTG Arena players in Best-of-One matches of Magic: The Gathering | The Hobbit Sealed, with an array of prizes up for grabs. Players who best their opponents three to five times will earn gems and MTG Arena packs, and six or more wins will send Magic: The Gathering | The Hobbit Play Booster boxes, while supplies last, on a journey to you!

A new Contender Draft event featuring Magic: The Gathering | The Hobbit begins today and runs through September 29! Structured like Premier Draft but with its own matchmaking queue and prizing more akin to a competitive event, Contender Draft is designed to be a fierce, high-stakes challenge. Your creative deck-building skills will be tested along with your competitive mettle. High stakes mean high rewards, though, and the prizes in the offing add Magic: The Gathering | The Hobbit mythic packs and a special "Draft Contender" player title to a trove of gems and MTG Arena packs.

To further complement the arrival of Magic: The Gathering | The Hobbit, we're holding some events in MTG Arena that will also incorporate The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth! You can enjoy playing with both sets at once in a Limited Sealed event from August 28–September 3, or journey back to our first visit to this setting with The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth Flashback Premier Draft from August 25–September 7!

Arena Championship Qualifier Events for August 2026

August's Arena Championship Qualifier events began last week, but the bulk of them are still ahead! The Best-of-Three Qualifier Play-In is coming up on August 28, followed immediately by the Qualifier Weekend August 29–30. These qualifier events are the first step on the path to experiencing MTG Arena's highest levels of competition, potentially leading to the next Arena Championship on October 24–25, and perhaps even further to tabletop Magic's biggest competitive events: the Pro Tour and World Championships!

Premier Play

Qualifier Play-In events are single-day tournaments in which players compete to earn invitations to that month's Qualifier Weekend events.

Qualifier Weekend events are two-day events in which eligible players compete for invitations to upcoming Arena Championship events.

Qualifier tokens earned through seasonal rewards are delivered to your MTG Arena inbox. Remember to claim them before the event starts!

Players will receive their rewards for the August 2026 season at the start of the September 2026 ranked season (12:05 p.m. PT on August 31).

You must have played at least one ranked game in the respective format to receive seasonal rewards.
